Calls for the 5th World Social Marketing Conference (WSMC)

Following previous highly successful conferences in Brighton (2008), Dublin (2011), Toronto (2013), and Sydney (2015), academic and practice papers as well as interactive workshop sessions and poster presentations proposals are now being invited for the 5th World Social Marketing Conference (WSMC). Overall conference theme: “Influencing Behaviour for Social Good.” The deadline for submissions is 16 September 2016. The WSMC organising committee would be delighted to receive submissions with a clear Social Marketing perspective, and a list of themes and paper tracks can be consulted here. Early bird rates and special prices are already available on the conference website.

Trends in diabetes: Diabetes kills as many people as AIDS. In 2012 diabetes caused as many deaths as HIV/AIDS (1.5 million). The study from NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC) analyses the trends in diabetes prevalence since 1980. The data are derived from 751 population-based measurement studies involving nearly 4.4 million participants. The study stresses the importance of a multi-level approach to support healthy behaviour, diets and lifestyle change and programmes to enable early detection and management of high-risk individuals to prevent diabetes or delaying its onset. New Journal from Nature for the behavioural sciences community launching January 2017 and open for submissions. Social marketing and behaviour change academics will benefit from having a new outlet for publishing their research. As stated on the Journal website, Nature Human Behaviour, an online-only journal, will publish research of outstanding significance into any aspect of human behaviour: psychological, biological, and social bases, as well as its origins, development, and disorders.
