Through a collaborative and iterative process the Boards of Australian Association of Social Marketing (AASM), European Social Marketing Association (ESMA), and International Social Marketing Association (iSMA) have endorsed a consensus definition of social marketing. This, and the process of its development, is explained in the document below. The next job is to further develop the set of principles that underpin the definition. The 3rd World Social Marketing Conference brought together a great line-up of speakers, both social marketing scholars and practitioners in the lovely city of Toronto, Canada. We were challenged by thought provoking presentations and we left with the feeling that the field is still redefining and reinventing itself. By connecting people and creating a community where experiences, knowledge, findings, methods, and practices can be shared with colleagues across Europe, ESMA endeavours to contribute to the development, evidence base and promotion of the social marketing discipline in Europe. ESMA is developing a set of services for its members to share information about good practice and research and to develop skills and understanding about effective social marketing. We aim to develop a leading movement and voice across the continent for advocating the application of social marketing in Europe and national policy decisions.
The first ever European Social Marketing Conference was held in Lisbon 26-28 November 2012.
