UK National Occupational Standards for Social Marketing Practice (updated)

The National Occupational Standards system in the UK is a government supported process for setting out what knowledge and skills professionals working in Social Marketing should be able to demonstrate. The standards can be used to develop job descriptions, assess candidates and agencies competence, inform the content of professional training and academic courses.

The first iteration of these standards was published in 2010. As was the case with the first iteration there has been a process of consultation over the last 18 months to examine and update the standards as necessary based on theoretical and practice developments in the field.

This is a significant contribution to the professionalisation of social marketing. These standards can be copied and customised for different country context and will help to further develop social marketing practice.

The new 2020 standards will be reviewed and updated again in 2025. You can find a PDF version here.
